From 5k to 10k
FROM 5K to 10K
5k training with a view to building up to 10k seems to have become a popular trend in the last few years. The women’s mini marathon, and improving health and fitness in general, has played a big part in this.
Here a postscript from a short article in a fitness magazine, i came across by a female runner and cyclist, recently. May be of interest to new fitness trainees.
Up in Dublin for work, I connected with my friend, the new runner, on Friday night. We ran together for her first 5k before Christmas, and she had talked about doing a 10k this year. While she’s well capable of running 10k, she tends to procrastinate due to her fear of the unknown. We discussed what would be the worst thing that could happen if she entered a 10k (given that she already runs more than 5k and trains regularly). She concluded that the worst thing would be that she might walk a bit in the middle (of course on the day she wont), and so we hit the run ireland website, made a 10k race entry and also a large handcrafted affirmation of her planned 10k run date, which is now stuck to her fridge door.
